60-metre deep sinkhole was caused by Agatha in Guatemala

On May 30, a huge 60-metre deep sinkhole opened up for the influence of hurricane Agatha. A three-storey clothing factory was swallowed, and luckily no one was killed. Pakistan Troops Kills 18 Militants in Northwest

A Pakistani paramilitary spokesman says troops have killed at least 18 suspected militants in an intense gunbattle near the Afghan border. Frontier Corps Lt. Col. Tahir Akram says the fighting Friday involved militants who attacked troops while trying to retake a security checkpoint in the Taliban-infested Orakzai tribal region.

Brazil: Hundreds are Buried in Landslide

Rescue teams in Brazil are working for a second night to find 200 people believed to have been buried in their homes by a massive landslide. More than 50 houses were engulfed as mud and rubble poured into the Morro do Bumba shantytown near Rio de Janeiro. At least 170 people died after a week of heavy rain prompted mudslides and floods in Rio de Janeiro state.

A preliminary census released last month by an aid organization found that roughly 7 percent, or about 84,000, of the estimated 1.2 million Haitians who had been displaced by the earthquake are over 60 years old.
